Movie Night #2 Print

The Swedish Club of Houston's second Movie Night of 2017 will be on Friday, August 18th at Jake's Sports Bar, 2944 Chimney Rock Rd, Houston, TX 77056.

We will be showing My So-Called Father, a 2014 comedy/drama directed by Ulf Malmros, in Swedish with English subtitles. Film critic Torbjörn Ingvarsson calls it “det här 2014’s bästa dramakomedi från Sverige” (this is 2014’s best drama/comedy from Sweden). It is quite funny at times but its focus lies more in the drama. A young school teacher, Malin (played by Vera Vitali) who is about to become a single mother goes looking for her father (played by the late Michael Nyqvist) to find out why he abandoned her as a child. Vitali was nominated for a Guldbagge award as best female actor for her role in this movie. Michael Nyquist has starred in and appeared in countless movies and TV series, among others Beck and Mission Impossible.

Jake's Sports Bar has plenty of good food. Come early for socializing and order dinner or just a snack and a beer to enjoy during the movie. We will start the movie at about 7:00.  A discussion of the film will follow.  Click here to let us know you're coming (there's no charge for this event; this is just for planning purposes)! See you there!

Traditional Christmas Craft Workshop and Fika Print

Every year, SCH members get together to make candy-filled Christmas tree decorations called julgranskarameller.  Some will hang on the Christmas tree at our Lucia celebration, and later the jultomte will give the rest out to all the children.  This year, we will include other traditional Christmas crafts to decorate with as well for our venue.  Bring the supplies for a craft you would like to share with others.

This year's workshop will be on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the home of Marie Teahen, 23114 San Salvador Pl (Katy), from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM (or come and go whenever!).

Please bring a dessert to share for our Swedish Coffee Table.  Optionally, bring craft material to teach others to do a Swedish Christmas craft or to learn how to do it together with others.  A pair of good scissors is also recommended!  RSVP to Marie at 978-239-4843 (call or text) or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
